Electrical Technician / Electrician Program

The Electrical Technician /Electrician Program is structured to provide the skills, knowledge, and techniques necessary for employment as an entry level technician in the electrical industry. The electrical technician program is specifically designed to meet the needs of companies requiring individuals with the skills needed in residential, commercial, and industrial electrical wiring. As industry expands and the population creates more demand for electrical services, the need for electrical technicians continues to increase. PCTI’s comprehensive program of theory combined with extensive “hands-on” training, both in the classroom and off-site, impress upon students the importance of accepting individual responsibility for the proper diagnosis and repair of electrical systems.

Graduates of PCTI’s Electrical Technician Program have many career options: Electrical Apprentice - residential, commercial or industrial; maintenance electrician for manufacturers or large commercial buildings; cable installer, motor repair service, utility servicemen. Many graduates complete the program to pursue becoming self-employed as an electrical contractor.

The extensive hands-on training at PCTI sets it apart from other institutions. Students are involved in many hands-on projects provided by local businesses and contractors. This allows students to directly participate in real world work experiences so that they are fully prepared to enter the workforce.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this program is to provide specialized occupational training in residential, commercial and industrial electricity. Students will learn how to apply theoretical principles to troubleshoot and solve electrical problems. Upon completion of this course, students will be prepared for employment in the following occupations:

OCCUPATIONS: Residential, Commercial, and Industrial Contracting, Maintenance Electricians, Cable Installers, Motor Repair, and Electrical Utility Service in commercial buildings, hospitals, schools, apartment complexes, engineering and electrical companies.

PREREQUISITE: High School Diploma or GED or demonstrate ability to benefit by scoring a minimum of 200 verbal and 210 on the quantitative on the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test.
